Parasite

By:- Stephen Fuller (S Francis)

We guard the moon and her parasitic glow
Reminding us of a life-giving force, alive
In spite of the darkness.  Its gentle second
Hand light molds itself to the texture
Of the ocean: a lit path, quiet, but somehow
Important, though we are not sure why.
If we had the courage or if we had time
To follow its light, we might discover
The force living in spite of us, not for.

What shall we name it?  Will we be struck
Down if we do?  Confess our ignorance
With a name: Love? Wisdom? Truth?
Happiness? God? The Philosopher has yet
To win an argument with himself and even now
Still questions Faith.  So what
If we follow the light, we might discover
The force living in spite of us, not for?
We guard the moon and her parasitic glow.
